Crazy Dr. Seuss Houses

Kindergarten

 

This lesson will be done with a kindergarten art class. Teacher will read Oh, The Places You’ll Go by Dr. Seuss. Students will discuss what abstract, illustrations, and patterns means. Students will be exploring and drawing abstract houses similar to the style of Dr. Seuss. Students will practice not scribbling, controlled line marks, and taking their time. Students will add faces and use unrealistic colors for their houses. Students will be using crayons and water colors.

The Rainbow Fish

Kindergarten

 

This lesson will be done with a Kindergarten art class. Students will be exploring and discussing different colors, patterns, and habitats. The teacher will read The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister to the whole class. Students will have a discussion on the book. Students will draw, watercolor, and cut out a fish on 8.5x11 white paper. The students will also paint an underwater habitat out of tempera paint on 12x18 white paper. The students will finish by gluing their fish onto their habitat and adding a little shiny scale that they cut out onto their fish.

Kindergarten

 

This lesson will be done with a Kindergarten art class. Students will be exploring and discussing primary and secondary colors. They will take risks, explore different brush size, and experiment mixing different colors. 

Winter Birds

1st Grade

 

This lesson will be done with a 1st grade art class. Students will be exploring and discussing different different birds that live in New Hampshire during the winter. Students will watercolor a background using warm or cool colors and tempera paint trees and birds on 12x18 white paper.

The Lorax Forest

1st Grade

 

This lesson will be done with a 1st grade art class. We will read The Lorax and then make their own Dr. Seuss forrest. Students will paint backgrounds with tempera paint. The trees and hills will be cut out of construction paper and glued onto the paper.

Tizzled Topped Tufted Mazurka

2nd Grade

 

This lesson will be done with a 2nd grade art class. Students will be exploring colors and patterns when creating the belly on their Mazurka animals. Students will be learning about analogous colors and will pick three analogous colors to make their Mazurka meck. Students will be practice their cutting and gluing skills during this lesson.

 

Dinosaurs

2nd Grade

 

This lesson will be done with a second grade class. They will use knowledge from their general education class, along with a handout given by the teacher. The students will use materials to create their own dinosaur out of clay. They will learn basic ceramics skills like scoreing, slipping, smooth, and adding texture.

Rain Forrest

4th Grade

 

This lesson will be done with a 4th grade class. Students will take knowledge of rainforest learned from general education class and create their own rainforrest environment. 

Empty Bowls

7th Grade

 

This lesson will be done with a 7th grade class. Students will learn how to and create three coil bowls. One of which they get to keep and the other twoo will be donated to the empty bowls event that is done at the plymouth elementary school. This lesson will bring students from other elementary schools together. 

Cubist Self Portrait

8th Grade

 

This lesson will be done with an 8th grade art class. Students will be exploring and discussing paintings done by Picasso during the Cubism art period. Students will draw their face on 12x18 construction paper (color is of their choice). They will draw their facial features on small pieces of paper. Students will glue features onto their face and finish coloring in everything with cray pas.

Animal Whistle

8th Grade

 

This lesson will be done with a sixth through eighth grade art class. Students will be exploring and discussing different methods and techniques in ceramics. Students will draw an animal that has a body of a pinch pot. Students will use an additive and subtractive method to create their animal. Painting will be done with either gloss or underglaze.
